Hey everyone, welcome back to Serenity in The Spirit.
I can’t believe the end of the year is here already! Upon reflection, I can easily come to the conclusion that 2018 has been a year that has changed my life for the better. My relationship with Christ has deepened and I can’t wait to go further with Him on this journey. I hope 2018 has been as much of a blessing to you as it has to me. If not, I pray for this last month to be one of love, peace and true joy.
So, if you read my last post, you know that I took a bit of a break from writing and I planned to be back with something for the Christmas period. I am very excited to announce that I will be releasing a SiTS advent calendar!!! Well...sort of! It won’t actually be a physical advent calendar but, in my opinion, it will be just as good!
How will it work? Well, I will be posting weekly (on Sundays) throughout December with 7 nuggets of Jesus related content (after all, He is the reason for the season!). This could be in the form of a song, bible verse(s), video, prayer etc. and will often be accompanied with a little comment from me.
I will also aim to put a reminder each day on the SiTS Twitter and Instagram pages so make sure you’re following them for the daily update. Alternatively, feel free to come back to the weekly post each day or screenshot to have easy access whenever it is convenient.
Whilst there will be an overall Christmas theme, not all the content will be directly related to the Christmas period. The posts will contain some of my favourite finds (mostly from 2018) that will hopefully encourage you as much as they encouraged me.
So without further ado...Week 1:
Sunday 2nd December 2018: PRAYER
Thank You for the year of 2018. Lord, some of us had a great year and unfortunately some of us didn’t but I thank You that regardless of our circumstances You did not change. You loved us unconditionally and will continue to do so as we enter the New Year. Father, I pray that You heal the hearts broken in 2018, let us feel Your peace that surpasses all understanding this Christmas as we transition into 2019. I pray that during this time we do not forget that You are the reason for the season. Help us remember the miracle of the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour. I pray for those taking part in the SiTS advent, let them be blessed by the content whether it be Your Word or content created by those serving You with their gifts. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
Monday 3rd December 2018: SONG
Help Us To Love - Tori Kelly ft The HamilTones
In this broken world, love is so important. In fact, it is essential and, as the song reminds us, real love comes from above. I encourage you to really listen to the words and whilst we may not be able to single-handedly change the world, perhaps it might be helpful to jot down a few ways you could show love to those closest to you this week. The Christmas period isn’t easy or fun for everyone which is why it is important to show EVERYBODY love (even if they aren’t as excited for the holidays as you). Make it a Christmas to remember for all the right reasons.
Tuesday 4th December: VERSE
John 1:1-4, 14 NIV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
14The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Wednesday 5th December 2018: SPOKEN WORD
iGods - Atang Agwe
Whether you would consider yourself Christian or not, I think it’s important to consider our well-being and the effect our phones have. As the spoken word piece points out, phones aren’t all bad but sometimes we can get caught up in the digital world and miss what’s happening around us. This is something I have been strongly convicted in recently. Consider this: have you accepted Jesus’ friend request yet? If not, why not? I would love to discuss this with you, drop me a message on social media or here.
Thursday 6th December 2018: VERSE
Matthew 1:18-21 NIV
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
Friday 7th December 2018: SONG
Silent Night - Boyz II Men
Masters of beautiful harmony and soul plus I love Christmas carols...need I say more?
Saturday 8th December 2018: QUOTE
“Grace is the unedited, undeserved, unearned kindness and favour of God” - Pastor Mike Todd.
Christmas is a time of giving but I guarantee there are no better gifts than the gifts God has given us - grace being one of them. God recognises that we won’t always get it right yet He still wants relationship with us. That is also why He sent His son, to take on and defeat our sin.
That concludes the first week of the SiTS (kind of) Advent Calendar. I hope you enjoy the content as much as I do.
**If you would like to suggest content (could even be your own), please feel free to message me or let me know here. There is no particular structure/format, I just need a link to whatever it is and I’ll do my best to accommodate.
Thanks for reading guys :)
