The faithfulness of God

Hey everyone and welcome back to Serenity in the Spirit! Happy 2021 - a year that is already promising to be eventful. Let's not forget that no matter what this year brings, our God is still good and He will never leave nor forsake us. He knows the future so if we stick with Him, He can prepare our hearts for what is to come. Our Heavenly Father can lead us in the direction that is best for us even if we don't understand it with our current limited knowledge of the future.

For those of you who follow us on social media (@SerenityinTheSpirit), you will know that this year will look a little different for the SiTS ministry. We will be looking at one word each month in relation to our walk with God in scripture, music, everyday life and more. In case you didn't guess by the title, January's word is: Faithfulness. But what does that mean?

In Society, someone who is faithful is regarded as someone who is loyal in their relationships. Someone described as faithful would be considered trustworthy and devoted, and this could be in relation to their romantic relationship, a friendship, a job, even a TV show or a barber!

God is described as faithful in numerous verses of the Bible (Deut 7:9, Lam 3:23, Heb 10:23, 2 Tim 2:13 to name a few). We also know that He cannot lie (Numbers 23:9, 1 Samuel 15:29 etc.) which makes His promises all the more meaningful. Not only are we explicitly told these descriptions of God's character but there are also many examples. To name one of the many, God's faithfulness was demonstrated after promising a baby to an aging Sarah(~90) and Abraham (100). This promise was fulfilled after 25 years but neither the length of time that passed nor the unlikely context stop God delivering. This shows His faithfulness to keeping His word and can be an encouragement to those of us waiting for God to deliver His promise to us. Whether that be awaiting a spouse, awaiting a group of Christian friends, awaiting victory in a certain situation or a promise of fertility like Abraham and Sarah, we can trust God to help and be there for us as is promised in His Word. Throughout multiple Old Testament books, we also read of God's faithfulness to His people, delivering them from other nations' attacks that were impossible to overcome without the help of God. Even when His people disobeyed Him, He kept a remnant safe from harms way as this had been His promise.

I encourage you to read more scripture where God's faithfulness is demonstrated. A great starting point is the book of Exodus. If God did it for all those people, He can do it for you too if you earnestly seek Him and seek to do His will. He doesn't have favourites and He is the same God today as He has always been.

Thank you for reading! I really pray that this post has served as a reminder and encouragement of the faithfulness of God. As I mentioned, there are many examples in the Bible and a quick Google search can help you find exact references if needs be. We can trust God to deliver on His promises, He cannot lie which means the promises in the Bible (His Word) will come to pass in our lives. Let this be of encouragement to you that:

- He will never leave us nor forsake us - Deuteronmy 31:8

- His love for you will endure forever - Psalm 100:5

- When our hope is in the Lord, we will soar and not grow weary - Isaiah 40:31

- His unexplainable peace can be ours - Philippians 4:7

- He will provide all we need when we put Him first - Matthew 6:33

- He will make our paths straight when we trust in Him - Proverbs 3:6

- We will never walk in darkness when we follow Jesus - John 8:12

There are so many more that I could write here but reading the Bible for any length of time is usually a sure way to discover more promises from our wonderful creator.

Keep an eye on our social media to see some more thought-provoking content about God's faithfulness and keep an eye out for the next blog post towards the end of the month where I plan to talk about how we can be faithful to God.

God bless you and your loved ones in this difficult time,

SiTS x
